I have been to Chewore lodge a few times now. This year we decided to use glamping tents. The facilities were amazing, a wonderful chef and camp hand called Cooper, highly recommended. Awesome food on a BBq, roasted chicken and the most perfect steak cooked just right. The experience was more wild than could be imagined, all the animals within arm's length, mainly the majestic elephants that came to tea. The reverberation of the lion's roars, the cheeky baboons after the food and the laughing Hippo particularly the zizz of the fishing line when the tiger fish were biting and much more. This experience was more than we could have asked for. We will definitely be back soon. Thank you Chewore for the magic.

Tigerfishing in Paradise! Another trip to this magnificent part of the Zambezi River and to a lodge we have got to love over the years. Exceptional service from well trained and friendly staff, delicious mouth-watering food at all meals, and the most enjoyable days out on the river tiger fishing with knowledgeable and expert fishing guides. We'll be back in 2023 for our annual trip.

A group of friends in 11 small airplanes went on a safari to Zimbabwe, staying in Chewore for 4 nights. Words can't describe how amazing this experience was, but I'll summarise as follows: The view: spectacular, picturesque, amazingly beautiful. The chalets: comfortable, luxurious, and spotless. Type catering: fine-dining-in-the-bush, 5-star, mouth-watering meals and outstanding salads! The staff: efficient, helpful, accommodating, pleasant. The hosts: friendly, warm, kind, considerate, hospitable…. We arrived as strangers and we left as friends. We definitely will go back there, and bring more friends!”

What a lovely place. Nature at its best; great fishing and wildlife; and lovely staff. For those travellers that can't live without internet, there is a location you can go. However, better leave your phones in your rooms or tents and enjoy what the river and the lodge have to offer!

Joined a large gathering of friends in the campsite for a week of bliss. We spent hours flopping about in the shallows of the Chewore - the perfect play area, mud spa, and cool off spot for all ages depending on what the river is doing! The staff also made sure the campsite pool was quickly cleaned after a muddy start, so the kids ended up living in there too of course. The staff was amazing - ensuring delicious food and also that the kids caught fish - bigger and many more tiger fish than the adults. Alas no pics of fish but there were several 4-6 pounders that gave the kids such a thrill and were quickly and safely released by the pro boat drivers. The campsite is perfectly equipped with tables and seating, freezers, plug points, and lights. And a great set of cutlery and crockery. The ablutions are smart with lots of hot water. We were lucky to be staying in one of the safari tents which are very comfortable especially with the solar fan that kept us cool and mossie free all night. We really couldn't have asked for more. It was worth the long (but beautiful) drive via Guruve and we will be back. Thanks Terry, Di, Laura and the whole Chewore team

We spent 7 nights in the hands of our hosts Di and Terry and the team at the lodge. We could not have wished for more. The atmosphere was so relaxing, the food exquisite, the fishing amazing, and the accommodation and setting simple but elegant. Our party of 8 had a trip of a lifetime. If you want to spoil yourself with an "out of Africa" experience, this is the place!

We have experienced the best in the world; Chewore Lodge is probably the best in our opinion. Service: Can you say "too good"? Location: An African showcase. Accommodation: Rustic charming Luxury. This place is a gem in a sea of African Lodges, a gem because it is real and genuine, unpretentious royalty if you like. If you want to feel the soul of the Zambezi then Chewore Lodge is just that. Where in the world do you get woken up at 2 am by a baby elephant and its mother a mere one meter away from your window? Bucket list for me to do it again!

Wonderful location on the Zambezi River. Great hosts and wonderful hospitality. A beautiful refuge in the Zambezi valley. Your staff was friendly and very helpful. Loved all the animal sounds at night. Thank you Terry and Di. Looking forward to visiting again one day. Gerry and Di Southey. Australia.

The lodge is located at the confluence of the Zambezi and Chewore rivers - in the lower Zambezi area. 8 colleagues and I flew in from Harare on the 9th November for 4 unbelievable nights. The lodge is on the bank of mighty Zambezi and you have spectacular views from the open eating area and bar - situated in a Lapa. There is also a small pool which is very welcome in the heat. The service is incredible - the resort is well managed by Ken and Paula and their team, who are very knowledgeable and provide excellent input/advise around any requirements you have. The food is wholesome, varied and very well presented. I would like to give special mention to Gilbert who ran around after us like a butler ensuring our every need was met!! The accommodation is clean and comfortable with fly nets over each bed. Each cottage has views over the Zambezi. The Lodge has 2 open decked boats and I would recommend that, although the boats can accommodate 6 people comfortably, you limit a maximum of 4 fishermen per boat. The boats are skippered by 2 great gentlemen - Blessing and Canaan. They know the river well and will try their best to ensure you catch Tiger Fish - I managed to catch 7 Tigers varying from 1-7 pounds. The skippers are also very knowledgeable on birds. A birder in our group managed to find 144 different species in the 5 days we were there - including Lillian's Lovebirds. While on the river we saw a variety of Buck, Hippo, Elephant and Crocodile - be aware that the first 3 animals were also in the lodge area at night. There are occasionally Hyena and Lions in the Chewore area too. Overall we had the honour and privilege of coming to the lodge and we were rewarded with incredible experiences, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Lodge & campsite top of the range. Food excellent, quiet, great fishing. Boats and fishing gear in tip top shape. If you are a lover of tiger and bream fishing, this is a must! Swimming pool for hot months.

I had the privilege of staying at Chewore Lodge on several occasions. Chewore is a hidden gem and the ultimate African experience that has to be experienced. The lodges are laid out around the main dining and entertainment area making it convenient and easily accessible. The dining and entertainment area provides a beautiful little bar, dining area, sunbeds, board games, bird watching books, and a spectacular infinity pool that's provides a very scenic view while you cool down from the summer sun. The lodges are well maintained and provide all the services and amenities you would expect to find in town, while being isolated in the middle of the Zambezi. Good job Chewore. The staff is very warm and helpful. Our fishing excursions were always enjoyable and catching tiger fish is guaranteed. The boats are very comfortable and spacious with attention to detail that would impress any serious fisherman. Drinks were always cold, and snacks on the boat were always catered to and well thought out. The boat drivers are well experienced and can educate you on wild life, good fishing spots and in general very helpful. The kitchen provides meals that are consistently up to standard, with fresh breads and rolls baked daily. The rolls and breads are moulded into different shapes and sizes on a daily basis. The kinds of attention to detail you remember. Over and above. The wildlife, variety of bird species and the natural surrounding noises of being in the bush allows your mind to be living in the present, which is what a retreat or a holiday is all about. The local elephant by the name of Chewore often enjoys his walk about in the campsite in the early evenings which is a great time to watch how graceful these creatures are. My best sleeps have been at Chewore. Thank you to all the staff and team that have made Chewore what it is today. I look forward to my next trip.

Chewore did NOT disappoint. Having lived my whole life in Zim, it was a dream of mine to visit Chewore at least once! Loads of animals with plenty excitement as night time visitors & noises gave us sleepless nights. We didn't care. Daytime we caught nice tiger & large Vundu - 11 & 15 kg's! Thanks to the camp hosts for their friendly assistance. Can't wait to plan the next trip! Just a small note - go well prepared to ward off the millions of ants.

Stayed in the Campsite. Everything was in perfect working order, as before. Chewore offers the best on-the-water river experience, without staying in an exorbitantly expensive lodge somewhere. Great launch facilities and a fantastic stretch of river are why we come to this place. Cannot wait to be back.

We had the pleasure of staying at Chewore Lodge at the end of September 2017 and it was amazing to say the least. All the staff were brilliant, especially Canaan our boat driver who managed to help us catch a couple Tiger with 2 highlights being a 7.2kg and an 8.6kg. Ken and Paula, the managers were excellent hosts and really made the trip a memorable one. We will be back next year for sure!
Hilaray545, Australia 27 August 2017
Lovely friendly, helpful staff. Couldn't do enough for us. Even made a birthday cake for our one year old grandson with balloons and a card and singing. Highlight of our trip. The rooms are very comfortable and spacious all with river views and safe window bars for protection from the friendly wild life that visits during the night. Absolutely the best real African experience ever. Lovely dining room bar area and pool. Excellent meals.

Spent 4 nights at Chewore Lodge with my family (10 of us altogether). The staff was wonderful and the food was absolutely delicious. It's an incredibly special location right on the banks of The Zambezi with a beautiful swimming pool and a perfect area to lie down and relax in the sun. The fishing and game drive options are also perfect.

We had an absolutely fantastic stay at Chewore Lodge. Stunning location, lovely staff, and fabulous meals. Especially when the elephant dropped by to say hi while we had dinner! Highly recommend - a great place for fishers, animal lovers, and anyone after a relaxing getaway.
Jax F, New Zealand 27 July 2017
At Chewore we really didn't have to go out looking for any wildlife - the animals came to us! From the naughty honey badger trying to raid the kitchen, to plentiful waterbuck, baboons and monkeys, to the local hippo population and crocodiles, right up to the nightly elephant visitors right on the front lawn (completely relaxed with our human presence), this was just so special. The staff was so friendly and helpful, the food was excellent and we were treated like royalty. Those who wanted to fish could do so whenever they liked, and relaxing in the sun by the pool was a great option for the rest. The beds were really comfortable, and the rooms all had river views. The animal sounds during the night just complete the picture. This is a fantastic destination, highly recommended.

This was our fourth Visit to Chewore Lodge. A great welcome from the caring staff is the beginning of a wonderful and relaxing kaleidoscope of an experience with every need attended to as you drift through each day as the Zambezi and the wilds of Africa take you through the wonderful vistas, game sightings, sunsets and great fishing experiences accompanied by delicious meals and relaxing sun downers.

Truly great trip had by all. What a holiday as we went in the rainy season. Road trip was an adventure with numerous incidents and stops. Broken trailers, road wash away, flooded rivers. Campsite and facilities excellent. Well maintained and camp staff very helpful and friendly. Good fishing. Lots of game including lion. Did not want to leave. The days just whizzed by. Will be done again!

We were spoilt beyond our wildest dreams from the time we arrived to the time we left. The staff and service was wonderful. We were spoilt with abundant wildlife and even had an elephant visit us every night not to mention the noisy hippo. The fishing was excellent, no shortage of tiger to catch and the sun-downers on the way home each evening were the icing on the cake. As visitors from NZ we were blown away and feel very privileged to have seen a 'gem' in Africa. We just love that Zambezi River with all its wildlife and amazing scenery.

Great 4 nights at the lodge, I can recommend the lodge to all. Good fishing, all catch and release - thank you! The setting lends to a relaxed atmosphere........all rooms face the Zambezi River. The "Stones" were wonderful hosts, the staff pleasant and helpful.

Reviews will only be positive and attract more visitors! As a frequent visitor I would like this paradise to be kept secret. I am glad the road in is long and rough as it might put some off. It is truly one of the best destinations in Zimbabwe. Fuel, Ice, Freezer, and simple, clean ablutions on each campsite. Rocky and his staff are outstanding. I like the rule of only 4 people and 1 boat per campsite. The catch and release rule for Tiger fish is great. In fact I like everything about this spot.

I have now visited Chewore Lodge for about a week, 4 years in a row, and will continue to visit every year, as long as it is possible. In short, this place is amazing. The lodge itself is beautifully simple, but that does not at all mean that it is basic. The whole setup is respectful of nature, and very subtle. Each room has a very comfortable bed, and is cleverly constructed to allow for max airflow, and therefore no need of aircon. The en-suite bathroom, with powerful rain shower (hot water if you want!), basin and proper toilet are most welcome for those of us who need porcelain no matter where we go! We have often had wildlife around the lodge at night, especially elephants, and it is a real treat to wake up because an elephant is eating literally feet away, and you can observe very safely from your room. We were also really lucky to see Pel's Fishing Owls which live nearby, so if you're into bird watching this place is a definite must to visit. The fishing boats provided by the lodge are fantastic. Well appointed, and maintained, with powerful but quiet motors, they are perfectly designed for drift fishing. They have very comfortable seats, and plenty of deck space, so there is loads of room to move around, ensuring you keep your fish on no matter which direction it heads off in. And compared to some of the other boats I have seen trundling up and down the river, they seem to be in a class of their own. Bringing it altogether are the incredible staff. Wilson, the chef and his team, never fail to amaze with the meals they can produce in such a remote place with quite limited facilities. Rex and Canaan, the boat captains, are equally fantastic, always keeping an eye on rods and lines, and adjusting the boats whenever necessary. The staff as a whole, have an excellent "can do" attitude, are always very friendly and happy to help with anything at all. Book this place, and go there - it is one of the finest places on earth.
Rob S, Italy 23 November 2014
I don't want you to go there because its paradise on earth and I want it all for myself and Angus. It's perfect: fishing wildlife area peacefulness and the rest. Camping is not really camping because they provide freezers and hot water and light and ice
Diwa Z 20 November 2014
There are very few places like this anywhere. To say we were impressed would be an understatement. The staff was proactive, helpful and always pleasant. Even though it was November the game viewing was spectacular. In fact we sighted a leopard during the day which is a rare blessing. The fishing, as always, was fantastic and we managed to boat an 18 pounder. Thank you Chewore!
Guy P, South Africa 8 November 2014
Spent a week camping in one of the last truly wild places in Zimbabwe and will go back as often as possible. We had the luxury of being the only people in the campsite and enjoyed continuous close encounters with wildlife that comes to feed in the last remaining green belt before rains arrive. The freezer provided for each campsite is a brilliant idea and we drank the filtered river water with no problems. Make sure your vehicle and boat trailer can handle the very rough 130km dirt road to get there.. Very worth the effort once you get there.
Waihibeach, New Zealand 15 October 2013
Rocky & Di, not sure how we can say thank you. This is paradise on earth. Fishing, game viewing sublime, the location out of a picture book. Food amazing. Canon is the man when it comes to fishing on the Zambezi. Please, please you must go here. You will think you are dreaming.
Nankipoo2013, UK 25 August 2013
First class accommodation under beautiful acacia trees with stunning views of the river. So lucky to see elephant walk through the camp at night. The food was delicious, the fishing amazing and the staff superb. A second to none experience.
Stubelluk 20 August 2013
An amazing place and well worth the long drive from Harare. The lodge and bedrooms are clean, simple and modern. The food was excellent and plentiful. There is so much wildlife to see and with the elephants passing through the camp every night Chewore is a magnificent place to relax and enjoy life. Can't wait to come again!
