If you are planning a truly romantic and special destination wedding in an awesome wild setting like the Zambezi Valley, the dry winter months between May and August are really the BEST time to do it!
There are clear skies, mild temperatures, warm sunshine, cozy campfires and stunning starscapes at night. And there are some wonderful venues to choose from to make sure that this very special celebration will be something to remember forever!
One of the challenges of choosing a suitable venue for a wedding in a wild destination is finding one that's big enough to accommodate a large gathering. Many traditional safari facilities are by nature restricted in size in order to keep their environmental footprint minimal.
In the bigger tourism destinations like Victoria Falls, and the nearby Zambezi National Park, there are more options that are equipped to cope with the logistics of a wedding to accommodate a long guestlist.
In Kariba Town, and in Lake Kariba's Matusadona National Park, a handful of sizeable resorts are able to host weddings and a few of the cruiseboats on Lake Kariba are also designed to accommodate larger numbers for a wedding cruise experience.
The Zambezi River near the border town of Chirundu, is easily accessible via the main Zimbabwe-Zambia highway, and is a popular destination for riverside weddings. There are several safari and fishing camps along the river which will collaborate to host larger weddings, sharing accommodation options for guests between them.
If your wedding is likely to be an intimate close friends and family affair, the smaller safari camps in National Parks like Hwange, Matusadona or Mana Pools will offer something really special and personalised. But their accommodation capacity is limited (often to a maximum of 12-24 people), and their locations are often quite remote and therefore less easily accessible. So catering/bar facilities and supplies need to be properly planned for and, if necessary, outsourced.
