Ingwe Pan Camp (Machaba Safaris)

Browse listings

Ingwe Pan Camp is situated at a large pan just off the Mana Pools floodplain, with its own private concession.

The camp comprises of 8 luxury ensuite tents with both indoor and outdoor showers. All tents are on the southern border of the pan just metres from the water’s edge and under shady Jackalberry and Nyalaberry trees. They are spacious and airy tents, all on eco-friendly decks which blend into the surroundings.

The main lounge area is under canvas beneath a massive fig tree. Dining is outdoors under the stars overlooking the pan. Dinner is a 3 course meal accompanied by imported wine. Picnics, barbeques and brunches are added extras to your usual safari cuisine.

Ingwe Pan Camp is under solar power with a generator for back-up if needed.  All tents have charging stations, bedside lights and overhead fans.  Wifi is available at selected areas to preserve the ambience of the wilderness.

Activities:  Every effort is made to tailor-make the experience for guests. Activities include morning and late afternoon game drives, morning and/or late afternoon game walks with our experienced Zimbabwean guides who are highly regarded due to Zimbabwe’s stringent examination procedures, morning canoeing and shoreline fishing on a catch and release basis (fishing equipment not provided). Early notification is required for canoeing arrangements to avoid disappointment.

Ingwe Pan accepts children aged 6 and above, and sole responsibility for their safety rests with the parent/guardian. Children under 12 are NOT permitted on Game Walks.

Access:  is by air or road. Chartered flights incredibly reduce travel time, although road transfers are a great way to see Zimbabwe.

Ingwe is part of the Machaba Safaris Family, and benefits from having a 6-tent seasonal sister camp - Mana River Camp - based on the banks of the Zambezi River in Mana Pools.

Nestled beneath a canopy of Albida, Mopane and the majestic Baobab trees is a first class tented camp within the heart of Mana Pools National Park. With the mighty Zambezi river a short game drive away from the inland bushveld, abundant with life. Ingwe Pan Camp is perfectly settled around a water pan that attracts anything from Eagles and storks to the gentle giants of Africa, leopards, lions and even the brown spotted Hyena who wanders, ever so carefree, to come have a drink from the bird baths mere meters away from where we have our top-shelf meals prepared by their incredibly talented Chef José. Not a flat belly remained after each of his masterpieces created in the kitchen. We were so blessed to have an immensely knowledgeable, kind and formidable guide, Edwin, who spoiled us with once-in-a-lifetime sightings and a world of history relating to the Park and it's (mostly) four-legged residents. Howard and Hilton made sure there was never a shortage of something to nibble on or an empty glass in hand and are 100% top class hosts with the ability to set our breakfast, lunch and dinner tables as if it were a work of art. The camp manager, Kevin Jocks, ensured we were always taken care of and oversees most of the behind the scenes admin that is vital in running an operation such as Ingwe Pan Camp. Mashaba Safaris certainly has my vote and will be seeing the massive smile left on my face after departure, very soon! What an amazing review, thank you for taking the time to put together your experiences at Ingwe Pan in so much detail. Your review describes our special camp perfectly and it sounds like you had an amazing game experience without even leaving the camp. Reading your review put a smile on our faces and we truly appreciate that you mentioned our amazing staff by name, they are the heart of the experience. We cannot wait to welcome you and your massive smile back to Ingwe Pan or one of our other Machaba Safaris camps soon!

After staying at the sister property Mana River Camp, in May 2022, I spent a night in the more luxurious Ingwe Pan. I'm glad I did as although they are a short drive from one another with similar wildlife experiences, this camp is set, as the name suggests, on a small pan rather than on the river. It provided a nice contrast from the other camp and the wildlife and birdlife coming down to the pan was incredible. The tents are brilliant, raised on platforms with small decks all overlooking the pan. You have great views of the comings and goings in the bush while still feeling safe. The room itself was very comfortable, no complaints and I love an outside shower but appreciate that there is also an inside one in case it's cold outside. Hi Andrew, Thank you so much for posting your review of Ingwe Pan. We appreciate you mentioning Ingwe Pan's sister camp Mana River Camp and how they are different from each other which makes them unique. Being set on the Pan does enhance the experience in camp in so many ways from birdwatching to the wildlife viewing to relaxing on your deck. At Machaba Safaris we aim to please and would never expect anyone to be cold in the shower :) We look forward to hosting you at our Machaba Safaris camps in the near future!

Highly recommended! The highlight of our stay was the entire experience provided by Edwin, Brian, Misty, Howard and the staff. They curated an incredible safari that was one of the best experiences of our lives. We will definitely be coming back!

October was dry and very hot but excellent game viewing as water is limited and Ingwe pan had a bit of water. Ranger Edwin was excellent -he explained proper stuff to us and was well aware that we were ardent and experienced bush people. Great place , service and i would highly recommend it to anyone. Thank you for the amazing feedback, we are delighted to hear that you loved your recent stay at Ingwe Pan and that we could make your visit truly memorable. I cannot say enough positive things about Ingwe Pan. The staff were not only extremely genuine, but extremely kind, sweet, and generous. What an incredible 3 night stay!! Richard, our guide, picked us up at the air strip with drinks in tow and “took the long way” back to camp so that we could essentially go on an extra game drive. We were greeted by the staff upon our arrival. Howard went above and beyond in his service and friendliness from the start of the trip. Mani is an incredible GM and probably spent more time with us than she was required to, but it was SO appreciated!! She was so open and warm and added SO MUCH to the overall quality and excellence of our experience. I cannot believe how hospitable all of the Ingwe staff were, including Alice, Brett, the housekeeping staff, and the chef! The chef was accommodating two vegetarians in our group, and the cooking was STELLAR! Everything was fresh and tasted healthy. The chef also baked the most INCREDIBLE chocolate cake, like EVER, and I am a cake snob. They also put the cake in the fridge for us so that we could enjoy the rest on the following day. Talk about personalized service! Richard is the best guide we encountered on our trip. He has the perfect personality for guiding and and is knowledgeable beyond compare. Last thing—Mani and the team planned a surprise, riverside lunch for us in the middle of a game drive. What a treat!!! I felt like a celebrity!! I would have stayed months longer at Ingwe if I could have. Most incredible introduction to the bush in Zim. Thank you Machaba for your attention to detail and hospitality!! Thank you for the amazing feedback, we are thrilled to hear that you loved your recent stay at Ingwe Pan and that we could make your visit truly memorable. We are delighted you loved our staff as much as we do! We may be biased, but they truly are just the best! Thank you for choosing us for your Zimbabwe adventure, we really look forward to welcoming you back in the near future at one of our Machaba Camps.

Wow! What an incredible place. My husband and I stayed at Ingwe Pan for the second stop during our Honeymoon. We could not have been happier. Mani, Liberty, Richard, Alice and Brett welcomed us just as the sun was beginning to set. The staff is extremely lovely and hard working. The nights were cool so we were pleasantly surprised with a hot water bottle at our feet in the bed! The accommodations were so clean and comfortable, overlooking the pan. We fell asleep and awoke to the beautiful sounds of nature. The food was also so so good. Liberty was the most incredible guide - his knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm are unparalleled. We will definitely be back. What an absolute treat reading such a wonderfully written review. I can feel the passion and happiness in your writing and I am delighted that you had such a phenomenal experience as Mana Pools will always leave you breathless with its beauty, it is a wildlife-rich, biodiverse wonderland that will delight you at every turn. Liberty is a fantastic guide his enthusiasm and passion exudes through everything he does. Thank you for choosing us to make your honeymoon truly memorable and look forward to welcoming you back in the near future at one of our other Machaba Camps.
