One of the original horse safari companies in Southern Africa, Zambezi Horse Safaris, based in Victoria Falls, provides guests with the fabulous experience of exploring the African wilderness and viewing wildlife from the back of a horse.

The company is owned and run by Alison Baker, who aims to provide riders with good quality horses they might even want to own. The safaris mostly take place in wild areas around Victoria Falls and within the Zambezi National Park.

Licensed Guides are well trained and have a natural affinity for, and interest in horses, the environment and conservation.

Shorter novice rides provide guests with even limited ability with a fabulous experience.

For more experienced riders our safaris range from short afternoon, morning or half day rides to fabulous and personally guided multiday safaris that can be tailored to guests’ requirements.

All rates include incoming and outgoing transfers from within the precincts of Victoria Falls. Helmets are mandatory and available for loan for shorter trips. Guests on longer safaris should try and bring their own.

Accommodation is in beautiful lodges in National Park and private Game Reserves ranging from a cosy retreat that is elegant, relaxed and the most fabulous Safari Lodges.

As far as the horses go we always look to provide you with the best experience and memories that you will treasure forever.

In addition to their tourism operations, Zambezi Horse Safaris also do vital work in protecting wildlife in and around the Victoria Falls area, through the Zambezi Mounted Anti-Poaching (ZAMAP) team of riders, horses and scouts.  They are an integral part of anti-poaching work around Victoria Falls, doing daily patrols in areas that other units cannot reach by road or on foot. They are constantly on the lookout for poaching activities, snares and injured animals. This often means assisting to track wounded animals and removing the snares.

LIFE-CHANGING EXPERIENCE!!! ALISON IS NOT ONLY "ONE OF THE BEST" - SHE IS THE BEST!!!! STUNNING HORSES!!!! As a couple from Germany we took our time in advance to search the internet for the best Horseback-Safari we can get in Africa or South Africa - not knowing much about Simbabwe we looked out for several countries and possibilities. While our search we found out that Alison Baker in Simbabwe / Victoria Falls might offer the best experience, after reading her reviews and those of others. That does not mean that the others had only bad reviews - but what other guests wrote already experiencing Alison and her horses made us to choose her for our 8-days-vacation to Simbabwe/Victoria Falls. And guess what: The already fantastic reviews were NOTHING comparing to that what we really experienced at our days with Alison - THAT WAS A LIFE-CHANGING EXPERIENCE, made us SPEECHLESS every single moment and day, it went beyond all best wishes we could have ever imagined! Alison LOVES and LIVES what she is doing. She LOVES and LIVES her horses, the nature, the game and the wildlife and of course her clients. We felt NOT ONE SECOND like we might be in a "money-making-tourist-attraction". Alison has STUNNING horses suited to your own riding level, she has a great team, she knows the reserves and every single animal and plant in every way - we learned more in 8 days than in 13 years in school...! If you love riding & horses, if you love all animals and wildlife and if you love the nature - and if you want to PROTECT the wildlife and the nature with more knowledge & respect, if you want to learn more about Anti-Poaching and Conservation etc. you cannot find any better adress than to be with Alison and her team! Besides that you will explore a country full of overwhelming kindness, beautyness, virginity and the best sunsets and sundowners you have ever seen...

I've done a 5 night/6 day horse riding safari with Alison and had the most exciting holiday riding experience. Alison.. was super prompt, easy to communicate with and sorted out the plan for me within hours. Two days later I was flying to Zimbabwe. The whole trip was organised very well, everything went smoothly and I had a completely stress- and hassle-free experience during my stay in Zimbabwe (this applies to it all - accommodation, transport, horse riding and other activities). Alison is a wonderful guide. Professional, highly experienced and skilled, and her knowledge of wildlife as well as the game reserve itself is incredible. I was very impressed by her understanding of animal behaviour, from approaching them to somehow being able to tell exactly how they would act. She's also fun to ride with and an interesting person (fyi her riding experience goes well beyond safaris). She goes the extra mile and really puts in effort to make it a unique experience for us. Being an experienced rider and having my own horses, it was also clear to me she is top in her field. The assistant guides are experienced and work well with Alison, while the horses are all lovely and well looked after (this was a big factor for me too). The rides combined fast pace/galloping in open areas, and walking or trotting in bushes. It was all very exciting as animals could be hiding practically anywhere and I ended up being on a constant lookout for wildlife. You see things from a completely different angle compared to a regular driving safari - basically becoming part of the environment where horses are viewed more like wildlife itself which then gives you an opportunity to observe a wider range of animal behaviour (yes, including mock charges by elephants, rhinos and buffalos! Luckily Alison knows exactly what to do in those situations so it's safe). I've seen such a wide range of animals (consistently) that I could not have asked for a better safari.

Best rides of my life! Alison is absolutely hilarious and I had a great time riding with both she and Reason. We experienced great game sightings and the weather was perfect. I got some incredible photos. The horses were wonderful, well trained and extremely well cared for. I can't say enough about how Alison and her staff go above and beyond both for their horses and their guests. Alison and her staff really made the trip! On a side note, the are weight restrictions on riders is for your personal safety as well as the safety of the horses. Please be forthcoming about your abilities and do not be abusive to the staff if they do not think you are riding fit. This is Africa in the wild, not a petting zoo and safety is paramount. Riding for 5 days with Zambesi Horse Trails was the absolute highlight of my trip to Zimbabwe.

We came to Zimbabwe for horse riding. As occasional riders we took 10 lessons in preparation of having to run away in case the lions are coming, which was good but luckily not necessary. We rode for 5 days through the Livingstone private game reserve. We saw everything and often close by. Senior was excellent at spotting animals in the distance. With Alisons bravery and determination we rode closer towards the animals. Alison has a gift for reading the mood of the wild animal. "He is a bit agitated today, so we keep some distance." [About the male rhino]. Next day: "he is very chilled, we can ride closer". She went first and us hiding behind her. We came within 20 meters or so. Totally still, the rhino showed some curiosity to check us out but no aggression. What an experience!!! It is absolutely amazing how the animals accept horses (incl the riders on top) as one of them. For the whole duration we stayed at Ursula's homestead. Heaven on earth! The giraffe watches you eat breakfast, the elephants come by at night time while we sat by the fire. Alison is a true character and part of the experience. What a woman! She organised our whole 2 weeks holiday, which included choosing some of the most spectacular hotels (Imbabala, Ursula, the gorges lodge and the Safari club) and booking us into canoeing on the Zambezi river. All went extremely smoothly without any hiccups. She organised it with our best experience in mind. One day she suggested we had dinner somewhere else which she included in the price. The manager there told us it is not included and he can give us 50% discount if we pay. We declined and messaged Alison. In capital letters she replied "leave it with me". Shortly after, the guy came back like a teddy bear saying it was all a misunderstanding and can he get us some wine to make up for it. Alison, you are truly special! Firm command with a warm heart! Hi Elke. It was an absolute pleasure to share this wonderful Reserve that I love so much with you both - and that you enjoyed your stay so much is even better. We did have fun! It was lovely meeting you and I really do hope you will join us again for more adventures with our horses! Thank you. With best wishes and kind regards. Alison

My friend and I joined the 4 hour horse riding trail on the Zambezi. The guides were very good, the horses were all well trained and well cared for. We did not see as much game as I would have imagined. We were able to get the 'between the horses ears of Victoria Falls'. The last half of the ride along the Zambesi was absolutely beautiful. A great experience. Hi Susie Thank you so much for your very kind review - despite the lack of animals on the day you rode. Thank you so much for joining us

I've learned on safari to hope for everything and expect nothing, in order to manage expectations. Just returned from a wonderful morning's ride with Reason, who was mighty adept at spotting and sensing everything from a distance, and who pretty much achieved all my hopes. He took great care to get me as close as was safe to the animals, and I enjoyed the experience very much. Senses very heightened due to feeling very "open", but that added to the experience. Very fortunate to have had a great ride, and also a good and safe drive to and from my accommodation with Joseph. Highly recommended. Hi Andy thank you so much for your kind words. Reason is brilliant and Joseph of course is a gem! thank you!

My sister and I did a four hour safari ride with Zambezi horse trails today and we haven't stopped smiling since. We were nervous about booking a horse trail as we only like to go with companies that really care about the welfare of their horses but we needn't have worried. The horses were so well looked after, alert and well able to gallop when needed but also happy to munch on grass while we were watching buffalo or elephants. Alison was so helpful and even organised taxis to get us across the border. The guides were unbelievable! They managed to get us as close as possible to the game but were always so quick to steer us away if there was any sign of danger. The only thing we would say is that the ride is definitely not for novice riders. It is fast paced and really exciting but I wouldn't want to be uncomfortable on a horse for this kind of a ride. Other than that it's definitely a must do and we really want to do it again! Thank you Alison and Team (and Banksy and Blaze!) Hi Alex Such lovely words - And so great that you were able to join us! Thank you - and we really hope to see you again soon kind regards Alison

I spent four morning rides with Zambesi horse rides during my month trip to Africa and it was certainly a highlight and a different Safari experience. Alison actually was involved in organizing the vic falls part of out trip including accommodation and fishing for my husband and we both had an awesome time. Accommodation was great and everything ran like clockwork. The horse riding safari was just fantastic. I had been to the Serengetti and the crater just beforehand but the beauty of the horse riding is that you are out there amongst it and it is certainly very exciting while also being much more peaceful. Alison's guide , Reason was so good at tracking the animals and on horse back it is possible to go off track where as in a vehicle we were unable to leave the roads. Reason had such great knowledge of the animals and the bush so he was able to take me to see so many animals On another day Alison took me for a ride around the back roads amongst the local villages and that was also a lovely ride. I felt like during those t four days Alison gave me a great African insight and experience and I was really well taken care of. I would highly recommend this as part of an African trip as an opportunity to see the wildlife up close and to see Africa from a different perspective that many others don't get to see - away from the other vehicles and tourists. Thanks for a great time Alison!!

Great alternative to a game drive! Early morning game "ride" was a great way to experience the nature and animals around Vic Falls. After a terrifying safety briefing (what to do if a lion tries to attack, etc), we set off to view the animals and nature on very well-trained and responsive horses. Elephants, impala, and kudu were among our treats along the way. Well run and worth the expense.

One of a kind experience! This tour offered by Alison is really extra ordinary! If you feel like you have had enough of the mainstream tourist attractions this is where to go! I personally have a little bit of horse back riding experience but this activity can be modified for both experienced and beginners! We saw Impalas, Buffalos, Warthogs and Baboons!

First of all I had great contact with the host. She took care of a lot of stuff and I could use stuff while my luggage was lost in the AirPort. The trip was amazing and also had adrinaline of the fact that any moment there can be an animal in front of you. The guides speak perfect english and are super kind, the horses look Good! What are you waiting for?:)

Must do activity if you love horses. We had an absolutely fabulous time out with Zambezi Horse Safaris. As others point out, the horses are in top condition - a long way from the pony trek donkeys you can find in so many places. Alison takes time to match horses to rider, and in fact even organised for my partner and I to go out separately from a larger group of novice Italians so that we could have a ride tailored to our experience. This is almost unheard of amongst operators in the region, who will usually bundle everyone together to maximise profits. We saw giraffe, zebra, buffalo, warthogs and a whole host of bucks as well as a myriad of birds in utterly stunning surroundings. Wonder, our guide, was full of information and kept us entertained the whole way. For my partner this was his first time doing a ride in a game park, and he is now completely hooked!
