The Big 5 Lodge Kariba overlooks magnificent Lake Kariba, with a stunning panoramic view looking west towards the setting sun.

This is the world's largest man-made lake by volume.  Big 5 Lodge can arrange a visit to its massive double-curvature dam wall, built in the Kariba Gorge - truly a sight to behold.

Fishing
Lake Kariba offers some of the most spectacular freshwater sport fishing in the world. Famous for the African Tigerfish (Hydrocynus Vittatus, - Latin for “striped river dog”), Tilapia Bream, Vundu (catfish) and many more.  Tigerfish, which are related to the infamous piranha can grow up to 15kg (33/Lb) and are renowned for their strength and speed. They have large carnivorous teeth and are also known for their “leaping out of the water” fighting performance.

Accommodation
Big 5 Lodge Kariba is a luxury family-friendly safari lodge with breath taking views, pampered luxury and service. It has 4 spacious double rooms with en suite bathrooms and air-conditioning.  (There is also a smaller, self-catering 2-bedroom cottage on the premises).

We invite you to come relax on the shady veranda and escape the heat of the day, while the tranquility and surroundings floats you away.  The main lodge has a restaurant and lounge area with DSTV. An à la carte menu provides the best homemade meals away from home. Even a connoisseur foodie will be satisfied. One of our specialties is to prepare the Bream that our clients catch, as nothing tastes better than your own “catch of the day”!

Game Viewing
Kariba Town is surrounded by wildlife areas, and is home to a variety of wild animals, including hippo, elephant, zebra, leopard and occasionally lion.  Across Lake Kariba at only 30 km distance from Kariba town is the famous Matusadona National Park, which can easily be explored by hiring a houseboat from one of the local harbours.  The well-known conservation organisation, African Parks, is now co-managing this Park and doing an amazing job.

Mana Pools, which is a part of a UNESCO world heritage site is a must-see for all adventure travelers. This beautiful, wild National Park has some of the best game-viewing in the world. Fishing and game viewing trips into Mana Pools are very popular and can be arranged by Big 5 Lodge Kariba.

Wow, what a hidden gem in Kariba! I was so surprised with this amazing property. The staff were friendly and helpful. The cottage was clean and comfortable. The beds and linen were fantastic. The cottage was cool and fresh with the air conditioner, which was a life saver. The best part is the bar and swimming pool, not to mention the excellent view. The next time I come to Kariba I will come and stay with you again. Really good value for money!

Very nice stay at Arno's place. Good location and lovely views. Hard to get a sense of the place from the photos but it's like a little self-contained bungalow /apartment in a compound. There was no one else staying at any of the other properties so far as we could tell, so it was very quiet. Pool was nice (though too cold to swim when we went). Excellent set up - no power cuts, hot water, and friendly staff on site to assist with whatever you need. Overall, a pleasant stay. Thanks, Arno.

This was our first trip as a family and we absolutely fell in love with this beautiful place. The view of the lake is amazing from Arno's place. Check-in and check-out were a breeze. Arno responds very quickly and made the whole process super easy. Overall, looking forward to coming back in September for fishing.

I had an amazing time at Big Five Lodge in Kariba. Having travelled the world extensively I would highly recommended staying there, the views and sunsets over the lake are incredible - memories I will cherish for years to come. I would love to visit again in the future to catch another Tigerfish. Arno and Happy were super accommodating and kind hosts and we had everything we could've possibly needed. Thank you for everything!
