Chundu Island

Victoria Falls, Zambezi National Park

Perhaps Chundu’s best asset is its location. Chundu Island is located in the heart of the Zambezi National Park, only 21km upstream from Zimbabwe’s majestic Victoria Falls.

The island is superbly positioned on the Zambezi River and only accessible by boat.  From here guests can experience Africa in its purest state. It is serene and beautiful, yet at the same time, guests have the opportunity to experience the best Zimbabwe has to offer. Peace and tranquility with opportunities for thrill seeking and adventure.

After the hustle and bustle of Vic Falls, a town that caters to both the adrenaline junkies and the curious, Chundu allows you to indulge in a deliciously chilled island life.  The exclusive lodge has sole access to this beautiful 1.4km long island on the mighty Zambezi River.

The lodge is constructed in the shade of magnificent riverine trees, blending with nature.  There are 6 spacious suites with wide vistas over the river into the Zambezi National Park and 2 family suites overlooking the banks of the river towards the Zambian side.

From Chundu Island there is a lot to do both on the water and on land:  Glorious sunset cruises with snacks and cocktails, the contrasting thrill and peace of canoeing on the river, fun fishing, exciting game drives, birding and bush walks in the Zambezi National Park to mention a few.   All this, under the direction and care of professional and experienced guides.

Chundu Island is a child-friendly destination.  There are, however, some restrictions on activities.  The  minimum age for canoeing activities is 10, and children aged between 10 and 16 need to be accompanied by a parent. Similarly, the minimum age for safari walks is 12, and those between 12 and 16 need to have a parent with them.

Chundu Island is usually accessed via a vehicle transfer through the Zambezi National Park, and a short "hop" by boat across to the island.  Scheduled boat transfers from Victoria Falls for arrivals and departures are available at 12.00 and 15.00 daily for an additional fee.

Luxury but with a lot of nature. Location is the best from early morning sunrise to the fabulous sunsets. We managed to see game but it wasn't plentiful due to recent rains making less dependency on river water. But did see a leopard really close on our last day. Blessed had real hawk eyes and spotted everything out there! He is extremely knowledgeable especially spotting the birds. Staff at Chundu were very nice and nothing was too much trouble. We had 4 wonderful nights there. Highly recommend!
