The Doma Safari Area is located in the mountains of the Zambezi escarpment adjoining the southern extremity of the Chewore Safari Area.
It consists of a dramatic mixture of broken wooded hill country and low-lying scrubland, and has good populations of large mammals which have unfortunately suffered in recent years from human encroachment and poaching.
Doma is used for sport hunting - an activity which depends on healthy wildlife populations. In a bid to provide people in the area with an incentive to conserve their natural resources instead of destroying them, local hunting and safari operators have developed a scheme whereby a percentage of the benefits of their sport hunting or their safari lodge accommodation charges are given back to the community.
Assistance is also provided by these operators to the Parks Authority, to help with anti-poaching units and to maintain essential services in the Safari Area.
One informal, self-catering lodge, set in the hills around a small lake is available to self-drive visitors wanting to explore this little-known, but very attractive area, or as an ideal venue for family gatherings and small bush weddings.
