Zimbabwe's Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, in conjunction with Dai Nippon Construction, has started major road rehabilitation, improvement and widening for 6.5kms in the steep Zambezi Escarpment section of the Harare-Chirundu Highway.

The area affected is from the 306.5 km peg to the 313 km peg (Marongora to Hellsgate Section - down the steep hills of the Zambezi Escarpment).  This section of road has been a major hazard for some time.

The roadworks will affect all motorists accessing Chirundu, Nyamumba, Rifa, Hurungwe North, Mongwe, Mana Pools, Sapi, and the Zambezi River areas to the east.

There will be occasional blasting and the road will be partially closed at times, leading to delays.

The road works are anticipated to last until 31 December 2020.
