For many of us, some of our fondest childhood memories are the holidays taken as a family. There’s nothing quite like planning and packing together for an adventure in another country, where the routine and responsibility of home is replaced by thrilling moments that become long-lasting family memories.

Africa undoubtedly offers some of the very best destinations for safaris. However, not all are suited for families, particularly those with a mix of small children and teenagers, who all enjoy different things. Lake Kariba is a great family-friendly safari destination in Zimbabwe, where you’ll be able to bring everyone together for a fun and relaxing holiday.

Musango Safari Camp is family-owned and operated, warmly welcoming families for a comfortable and affordable holiday at Lake Kariba, found along the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Musango Island is covered in lust vegetation and a path winds through into the woods, where resident bushbuck and a myriad different bird species are found.

Start and end each day with a spectacular view of the lake that seems to change constantly with the shift of the sun. Head out and discover the natural beauty and abundant wildlife of Matusadona National Park and the surrounding wildlife sanctuary on a sunrise game drive or boat cruise.

Early morning and late afternoon, the family can enjoy feeding the catfish that swim around the shallows or feeding the local fish eagles as they swoop down next to the pontoon boats offering amazing photographic opportunities.

The family will have fun while learning all about Matusadona’s fauna and flora from Musango’s own Steve Edwards, who has a deep knowledge of the language of the bush.

Steve, who was voted one of the top guides in Zimbabwe, will take the family on a walking safari into the wilderness, keeping you safe while teaching you about the calls of birds, spoor of animals and habitats of insects.

Close encounters with elephant buffalo and lion are the norm around Musango Island. The most popular game viewing method is on the very comfortable pontoons, cruising quietly and close to the abundant wildlife that lives on and around the island.

At the main camp, the family can investigate the dinosaur fossils and artefacts in Steve’s museum, take a dip in the swimming pool to cool off or relax with a good book in the hammock or on the pool loungers.

Musango is very family-orientated and provides a family unit with an extra tent next to this especially for the adventurous teenagers wanting to camp out.
